I had the same issue but i didn’t reinstall OS, it happened itself. Apparently Touchbar died and it caused Critical Software update error. It was booting fine in safe mode though, except i did not have touch bar or keyboard backlight at all. I had the top case replaced under keyboard service program. Now everything is fine.
